To support ozone modeling efforts in the Great Lakes region, Sonoma Technology reviewed Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model results for the region and performed a literature review on meteorological modeling challenges in areas near large bodies of water. Sonoma Technology developed recommendations to improve WRF performance and further investigate ozone modeling challenges in the region. As part of this project, Sonoma Technology also investigated ozone formation during transition seasons (i.e., April, May, October, and November) in the eastern United States.
