Eastgate Regional Council of Governments Air Quality Forecasting Program

Since 2003, Eastgate has depended on Sonoma Technology to operate their air quality forecasting program for the Youngstown-Warren region in northeast Ohio. Sonoma Technology meteorologists issue daily air quality forecasts for ground-level ozone concentrations for the Mahoning Valley from April through October. Daily PM_2.5 forecasts are issued year-round for Youngstown-Warren, as long-range transport of wildfire smoke and emissions from residential wood burning in winter can negatively impact air quality in the region.<br>

Along with daily forecasts, Sonoma Technology meteorologists assist Eastgate with public outreach, and produce and distribute monthly and seasonal air quality reports. Recently, Sonoma Technology meteorologists also began to deliver regionally specific podcasts and videos for the public that explain current air quality issues impacting the Youngstown-Warren region.
