Sonoma Technology is seeking a senior scientist to join our growing practice in litigation support. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in overseeing environmental data analysis projects and major emissions and air quality modeling assessments. Excellent communication skills are essential for this role, particularly the ability to explain complex scientific issues to a lay audience. Ideal candidates will be recognized leaders in the air quality field who have contributed to the literature, chaired national committees and workshops, and established a reputation for unbiased, science-based analysis work to support a broad range of public sector, private sector, and non-governmental organization clients. This individual will have an opportunity to participate in ongoing work and help STI continue to grow our modeling, emissions, and other air quality-related business areas. For more information about our culture, visit <a href="http://www.sonomatech.com/charter" target="_blank">www.sonomatech.com/charter</a href>.</p> Sonoma Technology is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer.</p> <b>Typical Project Roles</b> <ul><li>Provide full-service air quality assessments, from selecting appropriate emission estimation techniques to assessing the effects of applicable control technology on emissions and air quality.</li> <li>Provide independent assessments of controlled and uncontrolled emissions in comparison to established regulatory thresholds and air quality levels for use in determining compliance with permit conditions and health-based air quality standards.</li> <li>Conduct measurement studies to obtain real-world data and improve emission estimates.</li> <li>Provide expert testimony and make presentations to public boards.</li></ul> <b>Additional Key Responsibilities</b> <ul><li>Oversee and sometimes conduct technical analyses using advanced emissions and air quality models to address complex environmental problems and meet the research, regulatory, and litigation support needs of our clients.</li> <li>Visualize, analyze, and interpret model data and other environmental datasets.</li> <li>Apply statistical methods to compare model results with observational data.</li> <li>Oversee work to develop, process, and assess emissions inventories to support regional and project-level air quality assessments.</li> <li>Prepare technical reports and communicate results to clients.</li> <li>Work with interdisciplinary teams in a collaborative applied research environment.</li> <li>Complete control technology assessments related to criteria pollutants air toxics, and climate-related pollutants.</li></ul> <b>Required Qualifications and Skills</b> <ul><li>A degree in the physical sciences, environmental sciences, or engineering.</li> <li>10+ years of emissions and air quality modeling experience.</li> <li>Excellent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.</li> <li>Strong data analysis and computer skills.</li> <li>Ability to work collaboratively with on- and off-site analysis teams, and to handle rapid response projects.</li> <li>Experience in air quality (e.g., CMAQ, CAMx, AERMOD) or emissions (e.g., MOVES, SMOKE) modeling.</li> <li>A strong interest in air quality and environmental science.</li></ul> <b>Desired Qualifications</b> <ul><li>Knowledge of atmospheric processes.</li> <li>Proficiency in a data science and analysis platform (e.g., Python, R, Matlab, IDL).</li> <li>Familiarity with a high-level programming language (e.g., Fortran, C, Java, Python) and Linux shell scripting.</li> <li>Experience with the U.S. EPA National Emission Inventory, emissions inventory development, and using SMOKE and related tools to develop emissions inputs for air quality models.</li></ul> <b>Submitting a Résumé</b><br> No phone calls, please.
