The STI Team celebrates the company's 25th Anniversary at Safari West in Sonoma County.

We're expanding our team and have a variety of opportunities in several research fields. STI welcomes resumes from qualified individuals who are interested in working in the air quality arena even when a specific opening may not be indicated here. We look for candidates who have a degree in atmospheric science, chemical engineering, chemistry, environmental science, meteorology, or related sciences and a strong interest in air pollution issues. Have you had coursework in meteorology, air quality/environmental science, or statistics? Do you have good communication and problem solving skills and familiarity with computer programs, such as Microsoft Excel and Access or statistical software? If so, read further.

Founded in 1982, STI provides air quality and meteorological research and services. In addition to meteorological and air quality measurements, modeling, emissions, and data analysis, our services include geographic information systems, custom instrumentation, training and education, specialized software development, exposure assessment, air quality forecasting, and policy analysis. Our recent work includes major studies across the United States as well as projects in Canada, Mexico, Egypt, China, Qatar, and Antarctica. STI is an employee-owned company based in Petaluma, California.

STI's staff of scientists with expertise in meteorology, chemistry, atmospheric sciences, policy analysis, and computer science collaborate on a variety of projects for federal, state, and local agencies; universities and educational centers; and industry. Our senior scientists serve as members of university faculty, government advisory committees, and journal editorial boards. STI scientists regularly publish in scientific journals; act as peer reviewers for journals, associations, and government agencies; and actively participate in public education programs.

The STI Difference

STI's scientists are working on a wide range of intellectually challenging projects that are helping improve the environment and people's lives:

  • Monitoring carbon monoxide on lakes to detect hot spots to help prevent accidental deaths aboard boats
  • Providing an e-mail alerting service called AirAlert that notifies parents, teachers, and coaches of unhealthy air quality so they can take preventive action to reduce exposure to unhealthy air (www.myairalert.net)
  • Monitoring air pollutants inside children's homes to determine what exacerbates asthma
  • Forecasting air quality for many cities in the United States to protect the health of millions of people
  • Running the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's AIRNow system to acquire and display real-time air quality data, which are available hourly to the public at www.airnow.gov

STI's Working Environment

Sonoma Technology, Inc. (STI) is headquartered in Petaluma, California, in picturesque Sonoma County. Located just 40 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge, STI offers the excitement and culture of San Francisco and the charm and natural beauty of the North Bay.

STI is located at the gateway to northern California’s wine country—scenic Sonoma and Napa Valleys are within a 30-minute drive. The San Francisco North Bay Area (Marin and Sonoma Counties) is home to over a dozen state parks, beaches, and reserves, as well as Muir Woods National Monument, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and Point Reyes National Seashore.

Downtown Petaluma Our office is in Petaluma’s Redwood Business Park which offers summer volleyball tournaments, easy walking access to nearby shopping, close proximity to health clubs, and a short drive to downtown Petaluma. Sonoma County caters to those who enjoy a rural atmosphere and the amenities of a large metropolitan area.
